Some Fantastic Deals!

Each year about this time I start thinking about stocking up on food storage staples.  Right now Shelf Reliance has four of their food storage staples on an amazing sale.  These items each come in a 6 gallon bucket; the food item is sealed in a Mylar bag inside the bucket.  The bucket comes with a gamma lid already affixed to the bucket.   I love how these items are packaged ready for long-term storage, with the easy-to-use gamma lid.

Screaming Good Deals on Food Storage Staples
Pinto Beans 6 Gallon Bucket $64.99
Compare to the retail price of $99.99.  You save $35.00 per bucket.

Quick Oats 6 Gallon Bucket $24.99
Compare to the retail price of $43.79.  You save $18.80 per bucket.

White Flour 6 Gallon Bucket $39.99
Compare to the retail price of $50.49.   You save $10.50 per bucket.

White Rice 6 Gallon Bucket $46.99

To purchase these items you can contact me directly at autumnchristiansen@gmail.com or 435-723-0977.  If you are a Q customer you may add them directly to this months' Q shipment and receive the sale price, or place a separate one-time online order at http://thrivewiththebasics.thrivelife.com/thrivewiththebasics.  Remember that in order to see the see the sale price you must be an active Q customer and be logged in.

These products may be purchased through your Q (for Q customers) or by logging in to your account and placing an order (for customers not on the Q).

Shelf Reliance has a new name.
At the 2013 Shelf Reliance convention it was announced that Shelf Reliance is now "Thrive Life"!  New name, same passion.  You will start seeing the new name and logo on all Shelf Reliance items.

New Products—Sauces and Seasonings
Thrive Life is excited to launch two new product lines- sauces and seasonings. I can’t tell you how excited I am for these new lines.  I have already ordered and received a can of the new FD Cilantro and can't wait to use it.
THRIVE Sauces
·         Original blends developed in-house
·         GMO Free
·         Certified Gluten Free
·         10 year shelf-life
·         Come in the pantry can size
·         MSG Free

Veloute: A rich Chicken Gravy.  Great in chicken dishes like chicken pot pie.  It is a good replacement for cream of chicken soup in casseroles.  Also great as gravy over mashed potatoes.

Bechamel: A creamy white sauce.  Bechamel works great to make Alfredo, cheese sauce, or potato soup.

Espagnole: Beef Gravy.  Espagnole is amazing over a roast in the crock pot (add more water than the directions say).  It is also great as the base for beef stew, or over mashed potatoes.
Tomato: This rich red tomato sauce makes great spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce, or tomato soup.

THRIVE Seasonings
·      Certified Gluten Free
·      Have a 25 year shelf-life—this is due to the unique packaging.  The spice jar is metal with a pop top lid (like the pantry cans), once the pop top is removed the plastic lid is like the spice jars from the grocery store, one side is a “shake” side and the other is a “pour” side.
·      Freeze Dried Herbs (all are freeze dried except the Peppercorn Blend and the Chef’s Choice) should be used like fresh herbs.  In a recipe that calls for dry herbs you need to use the fresh equivalent which is 3 times as much.  So if your recipe calls for 1 teaspoon of dry basil, then you need to use 3 teaspoons of FD basil.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  I'm happy to help.

A Bit of a Break

As you may have noticed, I have been a little absent from my blog for some time. July of last year we found out we were expecting our 4th child. Since then, so many things have happened and I found myself needing to devote my time to myself and my family. Our new little one is due in just 4 weeks now and we're finishing up preparations for bringing him/her (we never find out the gender ahead of time) home.
I will continue to be a little scattered in posting over the next few months, but wanted to give you a heads up on what's happening and let you know I am still here for any questions you may have. I love my THRIVE Life (did you hear about our name change?) products and the opportunities this business has brought me and my family.

If you have any questions, please be sure to let me know!

Honey-Lemon Custard with THRIVE Fruit

I have been in an ongoing process of organizing recipes from the many magazine subscriptions I've had over the years. Upon going through one today, I came across a fantastic-looking recipe. When I started reading through the ingredients list I realized I had everything I needed to make it, and I could use my THRIVE berries for the topping! This was, hands down, the easiest dessert I've made in a very long time. The best part is, it looks like you spent forever on it, you don't have to turn on the oven and it tastes heavenly! In fact, it was the perfectly refreshing ending to a VERY hot day (it's been in the 100s in Utah lately).
This recipe is a slight variation on the one I found in Bon Appetit magazine, and can also be found on their website.

Honey-Lemon Custard with THRIVE Berries

2 c. heavy cream
4 Tbsp. honey, divided
3 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
3 2" strips lemon peel (I used a dash of my bottled dried lemon peel)
5 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
1/4 c. apple juice
1 c. assorted THRIVE berries (the recipe says you can use berries or mango)

Place 8 4-oz ramekins on a rimmed baking sheet. Heat cream, two tablespoons honey and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat just until it begins to steam (about 160 degrees on an instant-read thermometer). Scrape seeds from vanilla bean into saucepan and add bean. Add lemon peel; remove from heat. Let steep for 5 minutes. Remove vanilla bean and stir in lemon juice.
Divide custard between ramekins )I used 4 6-oz and it was a perfect portion) and chill to let set for at least 1 hour or, covered, up to 1 day.

Whisk remaining 2 Tbsp. honey with apple juice in a small bowl. Stir in fruit; let sit until fully reconstituted and juices begin to run (1-1 1/2 hours). Serve over set custard.
